Who's behind Cornelius Web Design Co.

The person, the office and the ground rules behind this site.

Cornelius Web Design Co. is a Mooresville Marketing company. The whole operation is Roger Johnson, working out of an office in Mooresville, NC (Iredell County). There are no account managers and no hand-offs to a junior designer. It's one small shop, and the voice on your first phone call belongs to the same person writing your code.

The skipper

Roger stays on every job, from the opening conversation through the tweaks you ask for long after launch. His habit is hunting down the little leaks that lose a business phone calls (a page that drags on mobile, a town missing from the service list, a map listing that never appears) and plugging them one by one.

Just up the shoreline

From the Mooresville desk it's roughly 8 miles to Cornelius on NC 115, or a few exits on I-77. Both towns face the same water, sit in the same interstate traffic and often serve the same households. Faking a Catawba Avenue street address would be easy, and we'd rather not. Calls, email and shared screens carry most projects; when meeting face to face would move things along, Roger makes the drive.

A little Cornelius history

The town's story starts with a quarrel over cotton. In the late 1800s, two Davidson cotton firms split over whether the town should appoint an official cotton weigher. The firm that lost moved much of its business just south of the Davidson line, where farmers were glad to avoid a hill that turned to mud after heavy rain. A cotton mill followed, backed by Joseph Benjamin Cornelius, its principal stockholder. The town took his name, was founded in 1893 and was incorporated on March 4, 1905.

In 1963 Duke Power created Lake Norman, giving Cornelius roughly 70 miles of lakeside property, according to the town. The lake, now the largest man-made body of fresh water entirely inside North Carolina, reshaped the place as much as cotton ever did.

What does your site look like from the dock?

Send over the web address and one line about your business. Roger pulls it up on a phone as a Cornelius shopper would, then replies with the one fix he'd make first, and the reason.
